Leave it to the imaginative Harriet Gertner to put a playful spin on even the most serious cause and turn it into a respectable, yet sassy event.

As chair of the May 12 "Kick Out Kidney Disease" luncheon at Houston Country Club, Gertner has been stirring up interest in the event and working on cash flow for the National Kidney Foundation.

Recently, she and Neiman Marcus hosted a preview party in the Galleria store's shoe salon where more than 100 well-shod supporters strutted their stuff. Amid the fab footwear by Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik and Ferragamo, Gertner outdid them all in her burgundy suede Christian Lacroix stilettos garnished at the toe with matching ostrich minifeathers. A perfect match for her burgundy cocktail frock by Narciso Rodriguez.

Guests swooned over the shoe salon wares as well as the yummy cake by Nadine Moon of Who Made the Cake! She created a tasteful pair of pumps in a cake format large enough to feed 150.

On board at the Neiman's soiree - Gil Gertner, Patricia Harrison, Francie Willis, Donatella and Fred Benckenstein, Mary Ann and David McKeithan, Cora Sue Mach, and Sidney Faust.

Harriet's interest in the foundation stems from the untimely death of her first husband, Larry Rosmarin, who died of kidney disease at age 43.
