was just like old times at China Garden last week when "Mayor Bob" (aka
Bob Lanier) celebrated his 79th birthday with senior staff members from
his years at City Hall.
Ah, we remember them well - Lanier chief of staff Dave Walden, city
attorney Benjamin Hall, mayoral spokeswoman Sarah Turner, agenda director
Dan Jones, city lobbyist Sabrina Foster and more.
The guest list topped 40 for the surprise reunion that Elyse Lanier cooked
up for her husband. Among the well-wishers - Sam Nuchia, Jimmie
Schindewolf, Jodie Jiles, Gene Locke. The crowd of political heavy hitters
surprisingly broke into song when the cake was presented.
Nadine Moon of Who Made the Cake! (formerly Camella's Creations) topped
the cake with a Mayor Bob caricature, the same figure that adorned the
T-shirt party favors.
The only member of the mayor's former inner circle not invited - Jordy
Tollett, who had the misfortune a few years ago of getting crosswise with
Elyse and landing permanently on her persona non grata list.
