Who knew? Saturday was not only Elton John night at the Toyota Center, but
it also was his birthday. The folks at Pace Concerts contacted Nadine Moon
of Who Made the Cake? to whip up a confection worthy of a megastar.
Saturday afternoon, Moon and Co. delivered a three-tiered chocolate
extravagance filled with chocolate ganache and chocolate butter cream and
decorated with icing ropes and tassels, hand-painted silver filigree and
fresh lilacs.
Oops. The star would hate the fresh flowers, John's manager said. Forget
what the young lady who placed the order asked for. So back went the cake
to the shop, where it was decorated handsomely with sugar flowers in
lavender (his favorite color). The cake was back at the Toyota Center by 4
and was presented to the birthday boy before his show.
